UNIC and Nordisk Film Host Private Screening of Det Nye År (To New Beginnings) at UGC De Brouckère

On 3 December 2025, UNIC and Nordisk Film jointly hosted a private screening of the Danish film Det Nye År (To New Beginnings), directed by Paprika Steen. The film follows a group of long-standing friends who are reuniting, as they have done countless times, for a New Year's Eve celebration steeped in tradition and shared memories.

Held at the UGC De Brouckère cinema in Brussels, the event convened over 90 policymakers and stakeholders from across the film and European institutions.

Attendees were first invited to join a behind-the-scenes tour of the cinema, and then a networking cocktail reception.

Before the screening, Asger Flygare Bech-Thomsen, CEO of Nordisk Biografer, and Laura Houlgatte, CEO of UNIC, shared remarks on the pivotal economic, cultural and social role of cinemas and emphasised the necessity of upholding principles such as territoriality, which serve to underpin Europe’s diverse film ecosystem.

Huge thanks to our co-organising partners at Nordisk and UGC. A special thank you also goes out to everyone who joined us for an unforgettable evening.

See you at the cinema!
