UNIC at EDCF Global Cinema Seminar


On 14 September UNIC was pleased to attend the EDCF (European Digital Cinema Forum) Global Cinema Seminar held at IBC 2025 in Amsterdam.

The meeting brought together industry leaders to discuss innovation and the challenges shaping the future of the big screen. The event offered key insights into market trends, new technologies, and sustainability in Cinema.

The seminar was opened by Cathy Huis in 't Veld-Esser, President of EDCF and CTO of Gofilex, along with Guillaume Branders, Executive Director of EDCF, announcing that the next annual EDCF conference will be held in Warsaw from March 10-11, 2026.

Guillaume Branders provided some insights on the the future of the Creative Europe MEDIA Programme.

David Hancock (Chief Analyst, Cinema and Movies, Omdia) provided a global industry update, and a discussion between Steve Llamb, (VP, Technology Standards and Solutions, Cinema Worldwide, Deluxe) and Guillaume Branders focused on protecting content from emerging security risks.
 
 AI was a central topic with a dedicated panel led by Patrick von Sychowski (Digital Marketing & Communications Manager, CinemaNext),  David Hancock, Rich Welsh (SVP, Head of Deluxe AI Production Technology, President, SMPTE) highlighting its transformative potential in Film Value Chain, from production to exhibition.

The seminar featured several Quickfire presentations, on different topics such as:
- Energy Efficiency in cinema projections (Araceli Vaello VP, CinemaNext Solutions)
-  HDR content creation workflow (Stuart Bowling, Director Content Enablement, Barco Cinema)
-  Mastering & image quality (Cedric Lejeune, VP of Technology, Unified Pixels)
-  Variable dynamic range (Chris Connett, Sr. Business Development Manager, EMEA, Christie Digital)
-  Sustainable film production (Birgit Heidsiek, Consultant, Green Film Shooting)
- Quantum technology & cinema workflow (Radoslav Markov, CTO, Bulgarian Academy of Science)
