Women need to understand that they can have 'everything' and that they can do it.

For this month's interview, we're delighted to feature Sabine Goldie‑Auger, Sales Director Pathé Cinémas Services, France, and mentor in the previous ninth edition of the UNIC Women's Cinema Leadership Programme.

Here she reflects on her journey and experience as a senior leader in the industry.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR DAILY HABITS THAT KEEP YOU INSPIRED AND MOTIVATED?

Reading papers, news, listening the radio, walking on the street. I like to see new consumer trends when traveling and every time I ask myself, "Can I do it, or adapt it?"

LOOKING BACK ON YOUR CAREER JOURNEY, WHAT ARE YOU MOST PROUD OF?

I am most proud of starting my studies to be a French teacher, to end up becoming a Commercial Director doing maths every day.

WHAT HAVE BEEN THE BIGGEST CHALLENGES IN YOUR LEADERSHIP JOURNEY, AND DID YOU HAVE MENTORS ALONG THE WAY?

The biggest challenge is to be able to say no, even when you really like your colleagues. I had different mentors, and I usually wonder, "What would she or he have done in that situation?"

GIVEN THE DEMANDS OF YOUR ROLE, HOW DO YOU BALANCE WORK AND PERSONAL LIFE?

One phone only! Total mix but easier to manage at the end.

WITH OVER 10 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE IN THE ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY, WHAT DO YOU THINK IS HOLDING WOMEN BACK?

Women need to be helped to understand that they can have “everything” and that they can do it. In addition, a rich family life is much more of an opportunity, and it helps to put work into perspective.

YOU WERE A MENTOR IN THE PREVIOUS EDITION OF THE UNIC WOMEN’S CINEMA LEADERSHIP PROGRAMME. WHAT DID YOU TAKE AWAY FROM THAT EXPERIENCE?

I took away that working and sharing with “good people” is key to being happy.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE YOUR YOUNGER SELF?

I would tell myself, "You are not exactly what your mother wanted, but it is not a big deal."
